Week 13 (12/9-12/15) – Social networking site

    My co-worker uploaded a photo about a little girl in her class cried to Facebook on Dec 14^th. The little girl was very naughty and noisy, and the teacher punished her, so she cried. Her mother’s friend saw it, and told her mother. Her mother was angry, because the teacher took her daughter’s photo and regarded as a joke.

    Facebook is a famous social networking site. We can use it to communicate with our friends, upload photos and type something about our messages. We should be careful , because our friends maybe have gossips about those. We have to adjust the settings in order to keep our secrets. My co-worker's example is the best example. Although the technology is very convenient, we have to be careful to use that.

Week 12 (12/2-12/8) – Death sentence

      From the news of Dec 3^rd, the cruel killer said Taiwan courts won’t sentence you to death for killing just one or two people.

I felt unbelievable to that. The 29-year-old cruel killer wanted free prison food, so he murdered a 10-year-old boy! The Alliance to End the Death Penalty always thinks about the rights of the murderer. How about the rights of the victim? The victims can’t choose their fate. Don’t they need the rights of their life?

I think that Death sentence is only a kind of punishments. We have to teach everyone what is right and what is wrong. Death sentence is just a maximum punishment. If the murderer doesn’t make the mistakes, they don’t need to get the cruel punishment! We have to protect the guiltless people.

A Recent Purchase I made - P.173 JW#2

        Last Wednesday, I surfed the Internet and bought two sets of ModeMarie(曼黛瑪璉) underwear in a Yahoo online shop. I usually buy underwears of ModeMarie(曼黛瑪璉). The quality of underwears of ModeMarie(曼黛瑪璉) are always good. That is the main reason I buy them. Before I make a selection of buying something, except the price, I mostly consider about the quality of goods. Underwears are very important for women, so that I care more about quality than price. That is why I choose ModeMarie(曼黛瑪璉). Of course, I rarely buy the in styles. That is a little expensive. I usually buy the outlets or buy in the online shop. That will be more cheaper.

Week 8 (11/4-11/10) – Recipe of Meow

I love cooking, especially cook for my family and lover. From September, I started to take some pictures for my cooking and record the process on my Facebook  I found that it was a very interesting thing. I can share my cooking with my friends on Facebook and review what I ever cook. I can cook a lot of dishes, but I do not know what I can cook more. When I looked at my family or lover eating the things I cook happily, I feel satisfied and happy. I really love to see their smile. Maybe one day in the future, I can assemble my pictures into a book, published a set of recipes belong to me and my lover and family. 

Prices for Products - P.177 Discussion#2

Most consumers believe that they pay a higher price for something as higher quality. We expect that more expensive products could be better. Of course there are always some exceptions. We can buy some cheaper and better products, but overall I think that about 90% – we get what we pay for. I am not a bargain hunter, but I compare prices for the same product. Usually, we can buy cheaper product from the online shop. Compared to the price, I care more about the quality of the product. I will not buy unknown brand products for cheaper prices, especially made in China.

Week 6 (10/21-10/27) – Hallween Party

Oct. 31^st is Hallween. Every year, our school hold various activities for Hallween. The most common activities we hold is Trick-or-treating. Our students go in costume from house to house, asking or singing for candy. This year, all the teachers joined this Trick-or-treating on Oct 26^th. I dressed as a Japanese geisha. I made up a thick white base with red lipstick and red eyebrows. My co-workers dressed as a corpse, a witch, a pharaoh, a mummy, a pumpkin man, and so on. We took the students to walk and sing. The most people watched us and felt fascinated. We walked about 1.5 hours, tired and happy.

Week 5 (10/14-10/20)– Hairstyle

Every single Saturday, we will add a extra class and ask our students come. Before the mid-term test, we have another special all day class on Saturday. Today is the extra class day, I ask students to collect all quiz papers for all the subjects  I told my students that we will calculate the average scores of the all quizzes  Then, we had a special punishment that I will help them design a hairstyle like rockets, whatever girls or boys. Everyone didn't want to have the hairstyle like rockets, and they did two very well quizzes  After we calculate the average scores of the all quizzes  I help the last one design a hairstyle like rockets. That is so funny! Everyone laughed, but was very impressed by this special punishment!

 

Different conversational rules - P.151 Discussion#1

I like to take a trip in Taiwan, so I have a lot of opportunities to ask for directions to strangers. In my experience, the people of southern Taiwan are friendly than northern Taiwan. When I need to ask people the way, the people of southern Taiwan is always enthusiastic to tell where I am, even take me to my destination personally. On the other hand, the most people of northern Taiwan are not so enthusiastic and they don’t even answer when they see strangers asking for directions.

Not only asking for directions, there are some differences from our conversations. The people of southern Taiwan are enthusiastic, just like my family. They will ask many questions for my trip, and tell me where good scenic spots or food are. The people of northern Taiwan usually only answer my questions, and they will not take the initiative to say anything.

In short, although we are in the same country, different people have different conversational rules, we should be careful of this.

Act the certain people differently - P.147 JW#2

        Of a typical week, we meet different people and act with them. We usually act the certain people differently. I am no exception.

In my work, I have to teach students of different ages, from seven years old to twelve years old. When I act the seven year-old students, I am just like a mother. Every noon, I help them to prepare their lunch. Push them for writing their homework. I need to help them to pay attention to the trivia of life, and exhort them to the attention to the things.

On the other hand, when I act the twelve year-old students, I am just like their mentor. Not only teach them schoolwork, I chat with them as friends. The twelve year-old students have their own ideas. I have to act them like friends, in order to shorten our distance. They will more like friends than teachers.

In short, we act the certain people differently, and make things easily and efficiently.

Week 2 (9/23-9/29) - Excellent Teacher Award

This year is my tenth year to be a day-care school teacher. I love my job, because I am happy when I am teaching. The Preschool Association (幼教協會) annually elects excellent teachers from every preschool and day-care school before the Teacher’s Day. I was chosen this year. I think that is the best gift for my Teacher’s Day.

On the other hand, I also got some gifts from my old students. The last session of the students came back to see me and sent me the Teacher’s Day card and I got some phone call from another old students. I was deeply touched by their simple mind. I am so happy that they remembered me. I hope that there are more students will remember me in the future.

Vegetable vendor receives Ramon Magsaysay award

 

Taitung vegetable vendor Chen Shu-chu (陳樹菊), who has received several awards in recent years for her philanthropy, was granted this year’s Ramon Magsaysay Award.

The Board of Trustees of the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation announced on Wednesday that Chen and five individuals from Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia and the Philippines would receive Asia’s premier prize. 

“[Chen] is being recognized for the pure altruism of her personal giving, which reflects a deep, consistent, quiet compassion, and has transformed the lives of the numerous Taiwanese she has helped,” the foundation said in a press release.

I think that Chen Shu-chu deserves everyone’s acclaim, not just for her benevolent donation, but also for inspiring others. She taught us that everyone can do this to help someone in need. In our country, there are many people like Chen Shu-chu who just is a nobody, but can help somebody. We should focus on such as this news, not only on Justin Lee sex videos.

 

 

An Important Thing – English songs Contest

        I am a Day Care Center teacher. Every summer vacation, we hold many activities for children. The last activity in this summer vacation is “English songs Contest”. Every class needs to prepare one English song, and performs it on August 24^th. My class is the sixth grade. Our English song is “Lemon Tree”.

        From July, we listen to the English song every day. We search video about “Lemon Tree” dance by google. My class and I discuss the dance steps together. At the beginning, my students didn’t take it seriously. They looked like slouchy. After I convinced them, they became to unite for the contest. I even bought fourteen silver hats and ties for their contest. Everyone helped to cut the yellow paper to do some lemons and paste them on the hats.

        How time flies! Two months passed away. It’s almost the day to race. Every one was so nervous. They all wanted to be the champion. I promised them to have a funfest party before the end of summer vacation if they be the champion. When they were full of energy and sang the song loudly, I knew they will be the champion! As we expected, we were the champion! From this contest, we all learned “Unity is Strength”.

An Unusual Occurrence - Met Someone like Teacher

        My boy friend and I took a trip from August 24 to August 26. We went to Nantou (南投). Before the trip, I was very nervous. Because of the typhoon TEMBIN, I  hesitated about canceling the coming weekend trip. Fortunately, I decided to go on the  trip with the original plan. We were so lucky because the weather was good and the tourists were not very much.
        On Saturday, we dressed up in costume and went to Monster Village(妖怪村). I put on a pink kimono and my boy friend dressed up like Monkey.D.Luffy (魯夫). We had fun there.

        On Sunday, we went to The Old England Manor (老英格蘭莊園), and ate lunch. At the Virginal Restaurant, the buffet cost NT$500+10% each person. When we entered the Virginal Restaurant, the waiter came to take us to the seats. I was surprise to see that the waiter was look like our teacher Harris Kuo. After we ate lunch, I took a picture with him. Those were two unusual occurrences for this trip. I was so happy in this trip. I hope I could go to Nantou again in the future.

Shooting spree claims 12 lives at US movie theater

A masked gunman killed 12 people at a midnight showing of the new Batman movie in a suburb of Denver, Colorado, early yesterday, sparking pandemonium when he hurled a tear gas canister into the auditorium and then opened fire on moviegoers.

Fifty others, including children, were wounded in the attack on the showing of The Dark Knight Rises in a mall in the Aurora suburb, some of whom were treated for the effects of tear gas, hospital officials said.

“This is a horrific event,” Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates told a news conference, adding that a suspect was taken into custody in the parking lot behind the theater.

         Last month, a masked gunman killed 12 people in a movie theater in USA. Three men who saved their girlfriends’ life at the Colorado movie shooting. A 19-year-old young man saved a stranger and her daughter at the Colorado movie shooting, too. I was touched by their selfless sacrifice. A friend in need is a friend indeed. How great the love is! If everyone could have this kind of love, the world will become very peace and beautiful.     

The Struggle to Be an All-American Girl / Page 43, #2 & #3

After I read this essay, I found that Elizabeth Wong and her brother didn’t want to go to the Chinese school on Yale Street, and “no amount of kicking, screaming, or pleading” could change their mother’s mind. Two of the causes of this result were because that they had to walk the seven long, hilly blocks from their home to school and they could not play with their fourth and fifth grade friends or sneak out to the empty lot to hunt ghosts and animal bones.  

        Their mother wanted them to go to the Chinese school in order to learn the language of their heritage. She wanted them to be proud of their own heritage and where they came from. Unexpectedly, Elizabeth was embarrassed by her grandmother and the language of her culture. To her, the Chinese culture and language was too common and lacked the beauty and refinement of other languages like French and English.

 

My Successful Writing Experience

       I always love reading, even in childhood. Because I am an only daughter in my family, I could play with myself. When I read the storybooks, I always imagine that I am the protagonist of the story books.

        I have been writing since I was around 13 years old. I tried to write some new poems and some love storys. Whenever I had any new ideas, I wrote them down in my notebook. One day, my Chinese teacher asked me to join the essay soliciting contest of the college journal. Although I had no confidence, I promised to try. I took  three new poems and one new essay, together with my old creations to the essay soliciting contest. One week passed, I was informed that my three new poems and one essay were elected to the college journal. When I heared the news, I was so surprised and excited. This experience inspired confidence in me.

And THE ONE MINUTE MANAGER except The Present. They are also bestsellers. The Present is a fascinating book. It is about a young man's journey, and his search for The Present. A great old man told the young man about a mysterious and elusive gift – The Present. In his journey, he learned how to live in the present by learning from the past and planning for the future and bring happiness in his work and life.

        “The Present Is Not In The Past And It Is Not The Future.” “The Present Is The Present Moment!” “The Present Is NOW!” In the book, the three sentences are very simple to understand. The Present is not a real present. The Present is the best gift we can receive because it makes us happy and successful!

        Bill Green was experiencing great success, and he told a story about “The Present” to Liz Michaels. There are two main characters in the story, young man and old wise man. The story is about the young man who discovers a way to live and work that makes him happier and more successful. Young man tries to find The Present by using any ways. The more he is hard to find, but they think he is unhappy, his "Present" did not occur. Finally, the young man decided to stop looking for “The Present”, he was surprised to know that “The Present” has been on his side.

        I got this book from my friend in six years ago. He gave me this book for a birthday present! This book is very thin, and easy to read. This book is just like its name, The Present. We are like the young man in the book,. We have the growing desire for The Present, but we don’t know to treasure what we have. We should learn something valuable from the Past, improve the Present, and plan the Future. After we did it, we could be more happy and successful! This book is very good, and I hope everyone likes it.

A pilot is forced to make an emergency landing in Sahara desert. He hears that a voice coming from the Little Prince asking him to draw a sheep. The Little told the pilot that he begins his journey by visiting different planets, and he search for what is most important in his life. It was because of a prideful rose that the Little Prince watched and nurtured. When the rose became too prideful, he decided to leave it, though he loved the flower very much. The people visited during his journey are bizarre and extravagant. On Earth he meets a fox who teaches him about love and friendship.

My review

 “One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes.” I love this book a lot. Everyone in the world has a childhood, just like The Little Prince. We all had pure mind, and we were curious about everything we saw.

        We have grown into an adult, but we also have lost our pure mind. We learned to be complicated and forgot our original happiness. Unconsciously, we became The King, The Vain Man, The Drunkard, The Businessman, The Lamplighter, or The Geographer. We should learn to treasure what we have, keep pure mind, and live in content.

Japanese cuisine restaurant - 三味食堂

There is a very famous Japanese cuisine restaurant in Taipei. Its name is 三味食堂. What makes this eatery stand out from the crowd is its food portion is very large. A Nigiri Sushi(握壽司) can be made like a spoon. A Sashimi is three times than other Japanese cuisine restaurants’ food. The most important thing is that price is cheaper than other Japanese cuisine restaurants. Usually the restaurant has not yet begun operating, the queue out of the restaurant extended all the way to the street corner. The restaurant's business is grea so that do not accept the appointment. I have been there twice, and I feel very good. I would like to share this Japanese cuisine restaurant for you. Maybe we can go together one day.

Have men in Taiwan changed in the past 20 years?

In Chinese trandition, the notion that men are breadwinners, and women are housekeepers is very common. People think that men who work to make money is very hard, and they should not to share the housework. As time passed, more and more women went to work. They are very hard, too. The past 20 years, the mindset of the people has been changed. People think that the role of the husband is changing dramatically. The modern men are not shy to do the work women do and in fact these days men can cook and clean as well as any woman can. There is no line of demarcation anymore between a man's work and a woman's work any more. A man would share the housework with his wife. Doing housework will add to his relationship with his wife and family.

Tung Blossom Festival

This year, we took a little trip to join the Tung Blossom Festival. From the website, we know that the Tung tree has very different stages in its appearance throughout the four seasons. Around April or May the flowers will blossom, and are a beautiful snow white; in summer, green leaves sprout from the branches; in autumn all the leaves turn yellow and blow away with the wind; and during the winter tung tree looks withered and dead.

One day, we went to Chengtian Buddhist Temple. After we parked our car, we took a walk on hiking trails into the mountains. So many Tung Blossoms were on the trees. After wind blew, the white blossoms have dropped. Although we sweated, but to see such a beautiful flower make me feel everything is worth.

Little Rose

On a sunny Sunday, we went out to the Bay to Neiwan（內灣）and Miaoli（苗栗）. Neiwan（內灣） is a facinating place locatedat Hsinchu county（新竹縣）. Because of the great weather, many visitors went to Neiwan. There were so many cars there so that we almost can not find a parking space. When we parked our car and walked through the street, we saw a cute little girl wearing a Mickey Mouse ears headband. Her name is Rose (Ciao-Ciao 喬喬). Her smile is so warm that people can feel happy. I took some pictures of her, but I didn’t took a picture with her. What a pity!

Paper Dictionary or Electronic Dictionary

A dictionary is an appropriate tool for every student. There is a big argument on the use of either paper dictionaries or electronic ones. Each of the two types serves the different functions to help us learning English. A electronic dictionary is easier to use than the paper one. It is also slim and light. But, it’s more expensive. On the other hand, we can refer to a paper dictionarywhen example sentences are needed and for similar words. Especially when we use an English-English dictionary, we can get many examples. If we can’t figure out how to pronounce a particular vocabulary from a paper dictionary, we can use an electronic dictionary for the proper pronunciation. If we can combined with two good learning tools, we’ll be able to learn English very well.

The effects of CSBI

        What is reading? Analyzing and translating the paragraphs into Chinese is reading. Just guessing the meaning of the paragraphs is also reading. That is because we focus on different targets. Most of us always think that we should know the meaning of every word, and we can translate the paragraphs. In fact, we don’t need to know the meaning of every word. 

Gregory Liu taught us the reading skills in the past year. When we get an article, we should see the picture or the introduction first. We can know the background by our self. Then, just reading! We don’t need know every word, but we have better to mark the words we don’t understand. After that, we guess! We can guess the meaning of a word from its context. 

After Gregory Liu taught us the reading skills, I learned to use the method. Now, I can use context clues to guess the meaning. Although I don’t know every word, I am not afraid anymore.

How does reading strategy instruction influence my attitudes towards reading? Reading strategies are both important and helpful to enhance our comprehension. Recent studies have validated that appropriately implementing reading strategies with cooperative learning might enhance learners’ reading comprehension and form favorable attitudes toward reading.

I agree with “changes of students’ attitudes toward reading” and “use context clues” before reading. I think this is the best way I got. Now, I get fun from reading, then I will read more and more.

Reflections of viewing The Avengers

I can say that I waited a long time for this movie. It is the most impressive superhero film ever produced.

The basics of the story are that the evil Asgardian Loki has arrived on Earth, intent on conquering humanity. Facing an unprecedented threat, S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury puts the long-gestating Avengers Initiative into action, gathering together the likes of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and Hulk to defend the planet. Of course, they are fighting in the beginning. Then, they learn to co-work.  

Although the film is almost 2.5 hours, I really enjoyed every moment of the movie and I recommend you to watch it in the movies. I look forward to watching it again on DVD or on TV.

A birthday party

We held a birthday party on May 12th. That was a grand party in our school. We had nine groups that prepared different English shows for the party. No unexpected, we got the No.1. Everyone made a self-introduction before the show. That was a special experience. We could practice our English Speaking. There were pizzas and many sodas. After the birthday party, we took many pictures near our classroom. Everyone had a great time on that day. I hoped that we will another party in the future.

The Dragon Boat Festival

The Dragon Boat Festival that is one of the three major Chinese holidays is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. Rice Dumplings and Dragon Boat racing has become an important activity to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival. The highlight of the Dragon Boat Festival is the Dragon Boat racing! Dragon boats are long canoes that are painted in bright colors – to look like dragons - and feature a dragon’s head at the bow and a dragon’s curved tail at the stern. The winner of the Dragon Boat racing is the first team to grab a flag hung at the end of the course. I like the Rice Dumplings made by my grandmother. Every Dragon Boat Festival, we do the Rice Dumplings together. That is a very good memory.

Flying Lanterns

Flying Lanterns, also known as Sky Lanterns, is a special, fa special mous and popular activity in Taiwan. It has already been held for many years. It was held in every Chinese New Year. Except Taiwanese, it also attracted a lot of foreigners. Many tourists can fly the sky lanterns in Taipei County during the Chinese New Year.

All people can write down their wishes on the Flying Lanterns. There are many kinds of color of the Flying Lanterns we can choose. The different colors represent different wishes. People can choose the color to write their wishes.

I have already joined this activity on Lantern Festival. If you have never joined this special activity, I recommend you to try it in next Chinese New Year.

Earthquake

A 4.9-magnitude earthquake shook Taiwan yesterday. The epicenter was located in HsinChu. Recently, there were many earthquakes in Taiwan. That is a very bad news. People didn’t forget the 921 Earthquake that was a terrible experience so that people are very afraid of earthquakes. Most people would prepare a package to flee when the earthquake happened. Earthquake fled package would contain the documents, money, food, some essential tools. It can help us to save our life outside. We may be unable to avoid natural disasters, but we should be careful not to become the culprit of damage to the environment. We have only one planet. If it is destroyed, we have no place to live.

New Communication

Communication has evolved greatly since the beginning. Now, people are able to communicate faster and easier than before. People can communicate by using Internet. Facebook is a website that you can set up an account and communicate with others on it.

After you setting up your Facebook account, you can add friends and fill out your personal information. Then, you can upload your pictures and messages, even your diary. More and more people have the Smart phone, you can notice the messages from Facebook anytime.

There are also many games on Facebook, they attract many people to play them. Facebook becomes a new famous communication website. People use Facebook to keep up with friends, upload photos, post links and videos, and know more about the people they meet.

Marriage

Some people say that marriage is a gamble; some say that is a commitment. For me, I think it is a promise. Marriage does not depend on whether you have good times or bad times together.

In the future, I will do my best in my marriage. I maybe feel depressed and discouraged on marriage, but I will make a happy marriage by doing my best. To select a good husband is important. I will choose my husband based not only on appearance but also on character. I will tolerate her weaknesses and appreciate her strength. I will show more love for him than he shows for me. Marriage may be is a gamble, but we still have a good dream.

The transportation systems of Taiwan

The transportation systems of Taiwan have changed people’s life. The rapid development of mass transportation has gradually shortened the distance between the city and the countryside. People can travel across the cities all in one day. Except train, we can travel across the cities all in one day by high-speed rail. With high-speed rail, we can travel from northern Taiwan to southern Taiwan and back in half a day.

With the full implementation of the high-speed rail, it is predicted that Taoyuan and Hsinchu can provide housing alternatives for people employed in Taipei. It is called "One-day Living Circle". People who can’t buy a house in Taipei can buy a house in these places. It is another good choice to have a cheaper house. The transportation systems of Taiwan make our life more convenient.

Online Shopping Changes Our Life

      In recent years, with the progress of science and technology, the development of Internet changes our shopping habits. Online shopping becomes more and more common. The way of trade has changed from face to face transactions to online shopping. Traditional shopping is that people buy products in real stores. Online shopping is through the Internet. They both serve transactions, but they are very different. Online shopping attracts people because it has many advantages.

       Because of busy working, more and more people don’t have enough free time to buy products in the real stores. The first advantage of online shopping is convenience. The busy people can buy anything at home. They just only need to click the mouse, spend several minutes and then finish the transactions.

Second advantage of online shopping is gaining information of the products very easily and fast. Through Internet, people can search the information of the products. They can compare different products on the same time. Usually, we can search cheaper products online.

The last advantage of online shopping is receiving the product. Online shopping products are sent through door to door delivery. All we need to do is just surf on the Internet, click all the products that you want and pay money with your bank account or credit card. There are some useful ways that we can try to manage our time and schedule below.

First of all, know your prime time and set daily goals. Some people like to work in the early morning and some like to work at night. To find what time you can work efficiently. We should always start important port of work at this time. We can write down the goals, and just make sure we finish them on time.

Second, be organized. We can use calendars to help us to prepare a list of to do things for each day or week. When we manage the works, we can finish them in a higher quality.

The last, use the 80-20 rule. Find which activities make up our most productive 20%. Use our 80% of the time to do the most 20% important things in one day. That will make us more efficiently.

        In conclusion, we can enhance productivity and manage time effectively by using the above strategies for time management. We can manage our time and have enough time!

KTV

My classmates an I had a KTV party after midterm test last Sunday afternoon. We went to Holiday KTV in Shulin(樹林). There were 22 people in this party. We ordered the biggest room, but it was still too small for us. Everyone took some food from the buffet. We sang total 5 hours. Everyone talked, laughed, and took many photos and videos. Although we came from different background and ages, we got alone very well. What fun we had! I hope we will have another party very soon. I can’t wait!

Friends

Most people have a large circle of friends. To have friends is important because the friends are for love and support. Friendship is difficult to define, but I think there are three different kinds of friends in our life. The first type of friend is a nodding acquaintance. Anyone can become a nodding acquaintance. We can know the type of friends in school, at work, on the train, or anywhere else. Maybe we just only know their name and even don’t remember their face. Then some friends will be as true friends. A true friendship will not end on small arguments. True friends will help you when leave footprints in our heart. Day after day, time will tell who your best and old friends are. We will eventually find the old friends having a lot of memories. The following poem sentences by Joseph Parry offers some ideas about friendship. “Make new friends, but keep the old; Those are silver, these are gold.” All the splendor in the world is not worth a good friend. We should treasure the friendship anyway.

Fresh Foods or Canned Foods

I like to eat many kinds of food and I love to cook. Fresh foods and canned foods are the food that people usually eat. Choosing foods is very important. The most different part of the fresh foods and canned foods are their influence on our health. People use some food additives, like Preservative, Aspartame, and Sweetener in canned foods. The food additives are chemical substance and sometimes they will make people sick. Fresh foods are nature. They are healthy and nutritious.

On the other hand, the difference between the two kinds of foods is the cost. We can buy canned foods in the supermarket. It is very convenient, so they are more expensive. Fresh foods are cheaper than canned foods, and we can buy them in traditional markets.

Yet another different part of these two kinds of foods is their flavor. There are good flavor and taste in fresh foods. Because they are from nature, they can keep the truly taste. Canned foods taste good, but they are made from artificial substances. There are the three different parts of fresh foods and canned foods. We can choose foods by these differences.

Planting cherry blossoms

On February 13^th last year, BIG and I joined an activity of planting cherry blossoms to celebrate Valentine's Day in Sanzhi Dist. We got up very early and drove to Sanzhi. When we arrived there, it was just 9:30 in the morning. After we filled the application form, we walked around the park and too some photos. At 10:30, the activity of planting cherry blossoms began. Many reporters also joined it and interviewed the people planting cherry blossoms. One of them saw us and wanted to interview us. I was so nervous when I was interviewed. That was my first time to be interviewed and plant a real tree with BIG. It was a very special experience for us. We will never forget that day!

KINAZ

Last Christmas, I got a great gift from my boy friend, BIG. It was a stripe bag and its brand is KINAZ. Although it was not a famous brand, but its style was very popular. I liked the KINAZ brand very much, but I didn’t buy anyone because of the price. I told BIG that before, and one day he sent some images on MSN and asked me which color was better. I guessed the images were one part of the bags, and I was right. I chose purple and red. Then I told him to deciside the color. After a few days, I got a big package, and it was the bag! I was so surprised and happy. That was the great gift I have gotten on Christmas!

Bibby 's birthday party

After the first party with the pugs, My boy friend and I joined a birthday party for his friend, Ray Chien’s pug, Bibby. His birthday was on December 17^th. We drove to a pet restaurant, Gobar in Bitan(碧潭). About twenty people and twelve pugs joined the party together! Everyone took their gift for Bibby. We also prepared one, a bag of Dog Food and Toy. Ray felt surprised, because the Dog Food was he wanted to buy for Bibby. After we ate some meal, we sang birthday song, blew the candle and cut the cake for Bibby. The special birthday cake was made ​​of low salt and low sugar, so people and pets can eat together! Ray prepared a special lucky draw for everyone. We got some samples for dog’s shampoo and a customized calendar, there was a photo about my boy friend and I on it. We also had a good time.

Last Saturday, our class watched a documentary film about food in the United States. The documentary was called "Food, Inc". After I watched Food Inc, I was disgusted and shocked. From the film, I known that it only takes 48 days for a chicken to go to market. It is not natural! How could it be possible? 

The one statistic that shocked me was the factory workers, not farmer, give chickens hormones and make them grow bigger and faster. The chickens can only walk for a few seconds because they are so big that their bones can’t keep up with the rapid growth of the fat.

The other one statistic that shocked me was the cows. The factory workers made holes in the cows because the cows can’t digest the skin of the corn. They stuck plastic tubes into the cows’ stomachs to pull out all the non-digestible food. It is so cruel! 

Knowing about history may help us understand the facts. We eat everyday so we need to change our thinking. We need to make decisions based on facts, instead of based on perception.

Pugs

I like cats, but I can’t keep one because of my mom’s refutation. She thinks the pets will make our house dirty. I can’t keep any dogs or cats, but fish. In September last year, my boy friend and I joined a party for pugs adoption. Before the party, I didn’t think the pugs are very cute pets and I didn’t like them. That was my first time to see so many pugs be together in the same time and same place. At first, I was not quite adapted. Then, I began to feel the pugs although ugly, but very mild. We played with many pugs and had a very good time. We also took many photos for the pugs. If I can keep any pets in the future, in addition to cats, I would also like to keep pugs!

Digital Camera

Photography is one of the most important forms of the memories; it appears on our every day life. For thousands of years, people all over the world have tried to capture special moments with cameras. Nowadays, we can see that many people use digital camera for their photography because it is very useful to record their sweet memories. The advantages of owning a digital camera are convenience, functions and editing. 

        First of all, the size of digital camera is smaller and thinner than a film camera. It is easy to carry. Digital cameras can be made smaller than film cameras because the CCD (Charge-Coupled Device) is smaller than a roll of film. Because its small size, people are willing to take a camera out. 

Second, digital camera has many useful functions. You can check your photos right after you take them and try again. It is also easier to store, organize, and search for photos immediately. It uses the memory card, so you don’t need to buy films any more. The memory card can be reused and you can retake pictures a lot of times per card.

Third, we can save photos from digital camera’s memory card to a computer and the pictures can be edited with photo-editing software easily. We can larger the photos or smaller the size depends how the photos that we want. After we edit the photos, we can make them a desktop wallpaper, share our photos through e-mail or on the Internet easily. 

    In conclusion, digital cameras make our life more colorful. You don’t need to be a professional photographer. What you have to do is just taking photos by using digital cameras.

Something regrettable in 2011

I had somethings that made me upset last year. Among them, the most regrettable one was that I lost a friend. Whiskey, my ex-boyfriend, had been in love with me for three years. We even got married in 2009. In fact, I know he is bisexual. After we got married, he didn’t change his sexual orientation. I felt very sad and I know his disloyal behavior. I asked him for divorce in 2010. We were still friends. Last year, he talked to me on MSN for getting back together. I didn’t want to be his lover or wife anymore. My boyfriend knew our story, and felt angry. He wrote an article for Whiskey in my blog. After Whiskey read this article, he knew that he had no chance any more. He cut off all contact with me. Although he and I had no fate to be lovers (husband and wife), he was a good friend of mine. It is regrettable that I lost a friend.

A coworker of mine

I am a teacher of a Day-care school. I work here for nine years. I have many good coworkers. My boss, Peter, is also one of my good coworkers. Although he is the boss, he is just like our father. He took care about everyone in our Day-care school, whether business or personal life. He taught me to ride a motorcycle seven years ago. I remembered that we practiced every morning for two week. He always gives us some critical suggestions. He is always kind and well-tempered. When I moved out, he helped me to rent an apartment. If I have any questios, he is the best audience. He is my boss, and he is my best new Papa, too.

A Driving Tour Around the Island - Day 1

My friend and I planed a driving tour around the island during the last three days of my Chinese New Year holidays. We decided to visit easternmost, westernmost, southernmost, and northernmost tips in Taiwan.

On The Fifth Day of Chinese New Year ( January 27^th ) early morning, we drove to the northernmost tip and stopped to wait the sunrise. Fuguei Cape Lighthouse(富貴角燈塔) is the northernmost tip in Taiwan. The lighthouse is black and white, just like a zebra. I called it “ Zebra Lighthouse”. Then, we went to the easternmost tip -- Sandiego Lighthouse(三貂角燈塔). The visits can go into the Sandiego Lighthouse. It is the only one that can be visited in the four tips.

After a long driving, we arrived at Hualian. The sun was ready to back down, but our hotel was at Taitung! The most exciting thing was we parked in the dark mountain road, walked across the road to the “Man can conquer nature” stele and took some pictures. About 11:30, we finally arrived at the hotel. The first day we drove from Sanchong to Taitung! We felt very tired and happy!

How did I spend my Chinese New Year holidays? (1) - Family Day

There were nine holidays during this Chinese New Year. My parents planed to Nantou(南投) on Chinese New Year’s Eve, so we had the family reunion dinner on January 20^th. It was very cold and wet in Taipei during Chinese New Year holidays. First three days, I almost stayed at home. I only went to Mackay Memorial Hospital(馬偕紀念醫院) in Tamsui to see my aunt and take her some fruit or chicken soup. My parents came back on The First Day of Chinese New Year. On The Second Day of Chinese New Year ( January 24^th ), we went to my grandmother’s home. My aunts, uncles, and cousins also came back to my grandmother’s home. I got red envelopes from my aunts and grandmother. My cousins and I played poker. It was a very happy thing that I can get together with family members in the Chinese New Year holidays.

Goodbye 2011, Hello 2012!

On the New Year’s Eve, we still went to school from noon to night. After class, I rode to my friend, Vicky’s house. We had a hot pot date with 5 old friends, my college’s classmates. The weather was very cold, but we were very happy. We chatted and laughed each other. Before the countdown, I set camera video recording. That was a memorable moment. After the countdown, I went to the KTV in San-Chung. My new classmates had a date with me. Some people came from Tao-Yuan, Shu-Lin, and Xin-Zhuang. Everyone was very excited, because this was our first dating! Now, we have another date in the winter vacation. That is expecting! I hope that will be more fun.
